Itorpona

After starting our journey as a band, we felt the urge to record our first album. But we were quite immature at that time and so we had no idea how to record or release our album.

Once when we were travelling along the hilly areas of our state, Timir and Bunty got engaged in a fight wherefrom the idea of our first album Itorpona emerged.

We started recording our first album in one of the finest studios of Kolkata which was quite expensive. But we were new as a band so we did not have much economical support nor did we have funds of our own. So we started taking loan from our close friends to pave the journey of our first album. Recording was completed after around three to four months of incessant effort. Finally, with the support of Major Seventh, Itorpona was released from Hindustan Records or InReco.

There is a story behind the name. Our friend Shaon Ganwala from Bangladesh played us the song ‘Itorpona’ composed by Lalon Fakir and we were deeply moved by it. After returning from Bangladesh we arranged the song in our own preferred way and included it in our album. When we were worried about the nomenclature of our album, our friend and film director Shamik Roy Chowdhury suggested we name the album after this song.

In 2015, Itorpona won the Mirchi Music Award on Special Jury Nomination — the judges could not categorise the album in any particular segment, nor could they restrain themselves from awarding it. After its release, the culture of practicing Bengali folk music and forming Bengali folk bands has grown visibly. People now tend to listen to Bengali folk songs with greater interest, and there lies the main success of Itorpona.
